After high school, Julia
entered Smith College in Massachusetts. There she majored in history. She was a
very active student, playing basketball, being a member of the student council,
and working for the Dramatics Association. One of her very first culinary
moments was experienced at Smith College as chair of the refreshment committee.
She graduated from Smith College in 1934.
